WHAT WE DO - Right Stuff Ministries
History

The Right Stuff
Basketball Camp was started back in 1993 with the vision that the sport of
basketball was a great way to get the attention of urban youth, especially
boys. Bobby Nix, with the help of
Mike Barnett and Ed Schilling approached Briarwood Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, AL about
sponsorship and the camp “took off”.

That first year
saw more than 160 kids attend the camp and we were thrilled to see 106 young
men respond to the Gospel. Since
that time, we have seen more than 1,000 young men come to Christ. Many of our
campers and coaches have gone on to colleges, professional leagues and even the
NBA. Most, importantly however,
are the number of young men who have gone on to become great husbands, dads,
and faithful followers of Christ.
A key strategy of
the Right Stuff Basketball Camp is to recruit the campers through local
churches and ministries. In other
words, a camper must be sponsored in order to attend the camp. Our aim is to serve the local church
and provide a great opportunity for them that they could not do on their
own. With this approach, a
follow-up mechanism is already in place when a young man responds to the
Gospel.
